Library Charter

General Rules

  1. Every reader/user entering the library should keep his/her belongings at the property counter.
  2. Every reader/user shall present his/her Identity Card (library card) issued by the VVIT library while entering the Library on demand by the Library Staff. Staff at the security counter is also authorized to check the Membership ID card at the entrance of the library.
  3. Every reader/user should enter his/her name & other details in the entry register maintained at the counter.
  4. Reading room facility for short referencing shall be extended normally to all the visitors with the permission of the Librarian / Library staff.
  5. Loud talking, Conversations, Smoking, chewing Pan/gutka, Use of Mobiles in the Library premises, etc. are strictly prohibited. A penalty of Rs.50/- will be charged if indulged in such an activity.
  6. Readers are requested not to bring any valuable/costly materials like Jewels, Money, Mobiles and any other equipment to the library. For any sort of mishappening the Librarian / Library staff will not be responsible.
  7. Members are not allowed to bring their personnel Books, Journals, CDs and any other electronic equipment inside the library.
  8. Please do not fold or tear the pages of any book one may use photocopy facilities by the permission of the authorised persons (Director, Chief academic co-coordinator). Use flap instead of folding the page during Xerox.
  9. Please use the dustbin to put any wastage like wrappers, chocolate covers and any such garbage to keep the library environment clean and tidy.
  10. Please do not misplace / hide the documents and try to maintain the arrangements without any disturbance.
  11. Books/Journals etc. removed from the shelves should not be placed back on the shelves itself after their use.
  12. Readers are requested to contact the concerned authority for any guidance and assistance.
  13. Members are solely responsible for any damage caused by them to the books or any other property belonging to the library and shall be required to pay the penalty imposed upon them by the concerned authority.
  14. Members leaving the library should stop at the exit so that the material borrowed or taken out of the library by them may be checked.
  15. Upon any infringement of the library rules members shall forfeit the privileges of admission and membership of the library.
  16. If the borrower leaves the campus/city and is not expected to return before the due date for returning borrowed material, he/she should return or renew such material before leaving the city/campus.
  17. The members caught tearing pages/stealing of books will be suspended forthwith from using the library facilities and further disciplinary action will be initiated against them by the Institute.
  18. Reference material (encyclopaedia, dictionary, etc.), journals & magazines should not be taken out of the library.
  19. Please check the book before borrowing. If a book is torn, soiled due to rain, stained due to photocopying or loose in binding, this should be reported to the library staff at the counter. Borrower is responsible for the condition of the book while returning.
  20. All library members (student & faculty) are expected to read the notice board for library timings and other facilities.
  21. Reissue of bookswill be done once in the first instance, and after a gap of three days it/these could be reissued.
  22. The Librarian reserves the right to suspend the membership of any member found misbehaving, abusing the library staff or behaving in an indecent manner.
  23. Please keep the library environment clean and tidy.

Rules Related to Borrowing of Books

  1. Books and other documents borrowed from the library should be returned within the due date failing which a fine of Re.1/- per day for the first seven days. After that a fine of Rs 5 /- per day will be imposed.
  2. Every member of the faculty must get his/her books renewed once in a year on or before the last working day of the academic year. The defaulters will not be allowed to borrow the books till they return the previous yearís borrowings.
  3. Books from the special collection, Reference Books/journals, Theses and dissertation, text books & Non-Book materials (e.g. Maps, Microfilms etc.) are not to be issued outside the premises of the Library at all.
  4. All students shall return books borrowed from the Library before the commencement of examination and get No Due Certificate from the Library. The Name of the defaulters shall be reported to the Director.
  5. The members of teaching/non-teaching staff of the institute who are going to leave the institute should return the books borrowed from the Library to get No Due Certificate before they get relieved
  6. Books & other reading materials borrowed by any user may be recalled by the Librarian any time & should be returned within the period specified in such communication.
  7. Duplicate membership card shall be issued only of justification letter for the loss on the payment of Rs. 50 per card along with.
  8. Every reader borrowing library books/other documents shall be responsible for the safe custody and return of the same in undamaged manner. He /She should bring to the notice of the concerned library staff if the book is damaged/ mutilated before getting it issued. In the event of its being mutilated/ lost, the borrower has to replace the same with new book or pay TWO TIMES the cost of the book. The cost of the book shall be calculated at the current price and exchange rates, in case of foreign books/document.

Rules relating to Loss of Book

  1. Every reader who loses the book must report to the VVIT Library immediately and he will be given one month time for finding and return of the book. In case he/she fails to return the book after 7 days from the date of reporting, he/she will be charged a fine of Rs 50/- per day per book till he/she replaces with the new book of the same title and other details. In case he/she canít replace the book then he/she will have to pay TWO TIMES the cost of the book.

Rules for using Digital Library facilities/services

  1. All the users of the library who are desirous of using Internet and E-journal Browsing facility within the library premises can use by the permission of librarian or library staff.
  2. Opening of the Social networking sites ( Facebook, Twitter etc.) in the digital library computer is extremely banned for student as well as faculty members.
  3. Use of the USB Flash drive (Pen Drive) without the permission of concerned authority is strictly banned for the students. In case students are found using it , they will be charged a penalty of Rs. 100 or the Pen drive will be seized. Faculty members may use pen drive with prior information to the concerned authority in some particular computer systems provided with this facility.
  4. Playing game on computer in the digital library is strictly banned for the student & also for the faculty members. Any such incident will be reported to the higher authority (Director, Chairman).

Borrowing Privileges

            Student: -   2 books for 7 days
            Faculties: - 4 books per subject
            Other Staffs: - 2 books for 15 days

Overdue Fine

                @ Rs.1/day for first 7 days
                @ Rs. 5/day after 7 days exceeding 7 days
